Shame on you!

*Is super duper cranky*

I've just spent the last 3 hours entering the entries for the contest into a spread sheet and I am cranky. First it was people not leaving their emails. I was annoyed, but oh well, what can do? And if they do win, I can just leave a message and they can email me their info. But it was the person that entered twice that has me cranky as all heck. Not entered twice as in left one comment, and then left another comment because they went and blogged or tweeted for extra entries. They entered under two different names. You should be ashamed of yourself. You've been disqualified. And right now I'm tempted to disqualify everyone that's entered anonymously because I can't check to make sure they're followers. I was just going to accept them and trust that they really are followers. But I'm not feeling that right now. HMPFF.

  1. I know exactly how you feel! So far, with my entries, I had one person using two different names. Really annoyed.

  2. I was just really annoyed because I want to do this for fun and this person makes it not fun. Ugh.

  3. I'm sorry! This is just one of those things that happens with giveaways, people will unfollow you after they don't win too. It's a terrible part of the giveaway process. I do disqualify people who are anonymous because I can't check if they follow or not. Is it really that hard to get a blogger account? Ugh, I know how you feel hun!

  4. *Sads* I guess I'll know for next time. It's probably because I'm still a n00b and still idealistic.

  5. I'm doing my first giveaway now too...and I think I'm going to do it way different next time. It was my first giveaway so I just followed the trend of what I see most people do... but you know what? I really want to say thank you to my existing followers (the ones I got by myself who by chance happened upon my blog) but since I assigned extra entries for the giveaway, it increased your followers.... And that's all good, but I would rather people read my blog cos they want to not just to win a prize... but I get that. I've entered giveaways myself as a new follower but I stick around after that - and if that happens to me, great! When I reach 100 maybe I'll do 2 automated entries for all of the first 50 follwers I had :) and one for everyone else... I dunno... probably just par and parcel of the running it. Don't let it get you down! :)

  6. I did the same. Just did what everyone else was doing. But I think I'll also do something a little different next time. No more extra entries. Just one entry each for followers. Just to thank those who have stuck around. I was considering adding extra entries to those who have supported me and commented regularly early on, but I was worried that I would miss some and that wouldn't be fair either.

  7. aw honey bunny don't be cranky, go have some ice cream then come back and do more spreadsheet entering. plus don't feel bad if people don't follow the rules, you're the one doing THEM a favor! xo

  8. Duuuuude I know what you mean. Actually the person who won my first giveaway wasn't a follower, which I only found out like a month later. I didn't think I'd have to check EVERY SINGLE person. Read the rules, people!

  9. Lizzard: I'm all done the entering. And I got now ice cream at home. But I'm good now. All of you have totally cheered me up. Thanks a bunch for understanding.

Stephanie: Omg, yeah, I never figured I'd have to check them ALL. I think when I do the draw, I'm just going to check the winner to make sure. If not, nuh uh.

  10. Thanks for sharing your experience. I am doing a giveaway on my blog and i am so excited to be giving the polishes to a follower. It's a shame that someone would cheat, when you are doing something generous for your readers. Keep your head up. Karma's a bitch.

  11. i don't have a blog, so i don't know what it's like, but i sympathize with your frustration. especially because your giveaway is SO generous and you're doing it out of the goodness of your heart, people shouldn't take advantage. plus, i'm a rule follower by nature so those rule breakers really get me! :) just want you to know your hard work and blog are appreciated!

  12. Hello I hope I'm not this person :( If I entered using another login (Blogger format is unfamiliar to me since I use WP), I apologize if it came out that way - I couldn't delete my earlier comment as you instructed :(

Please do know that I follow you and appreciate all your hard work on this blog! Keep it up!

  13. i couldn't agree more shame on them, i am hosting my second giveaway, on my first i emailed the girls who entered but never bothered to follow , but i m not bothering to email anyone tis time, but i got like 10 ppl, saying they are following but aren't, so they are already disqualified, i have learnt my lesson so in future my giveaways will be FOLLOWERS only. i love taking part in giveaways, although i never win but tis way i came across some really great blogs

  14. I spent about 3 hours trying to make the rules as clear as I possibly could for my giveaway and people are already not paying attention and just entering any old way! At first I thought i might email and remind people of the mandatory entry but I'm afraid it will take way too much time. I also already found someone who just made up a fake link hoping I wouldn't check it I guess.
Oh well! It's still fun in the end. And the people who don't follow the rules will be disqualified.

  15. I wouldn't be too trustful toward anonymous entries...

Your giveaway was particularly attractive and insanely generous, so I'd tell it's almost no surprise that it attracted sharkies. There are greedy people on this planet, it's nothing new. I don't like greedy people. We all do that to thank those who've stuck with us. Shame to those who try to take advantage of this.

There are those who just follow you the time of a giveaway, those who participate to all the giveaways they find no matter the prize, those who enter twice. The most disgusting and hurting part is those who unfollow your blog as soon as the giveaway has a winner announced. It says it all. I have for sure discovered blogs just because girls were having a giveaway (it's a good publicity it seems and a great way to spread the world about you!). But if I'm not sure to truly be a regular reader of the blog, I don't follow and don't enter. I probably miss opportunities to win but at the end of the day, I come here to read girls' rambling, discover products and make friends, not to get something.

  16. Girl I TOTALLY get what your talking about! My first giveaway made me so mad! I had a few people send me entries from 2 different email addresses, thinking I couldn't figure it out! It's just flat out wrong! And really put a sour taste in my mouth about the whole giveaway deal. I'll have one again one day, but it probably wont be for a while!
All that to say...I totally understand your frustration!

  17. YES! I a in the middle of my 1st giveaway - and maybe next time I will require a follower to give me a link to their site - not just email and link-back for posting....come on people, FOLLOW THE RULES!!!! If I can't find their blog by clicking on the name, immediate DQ.

I have gotten many new followers and that's cool, but I agree - read because you want to, not just to get in on a freebie!

Next time my contest will require a little skill *scheming*

  18. I typed a whole post here, but somehow it didn't enter and then disappeared? Weird!

I just wanted to let you know that I'm sorry to hear that such a nice thing as having a giveaway to thank your readers costs you so much pain and frustration. I hope you feel a little better after reading all the comments here from people that feel for you.

    *hug*

  19. to be honest, I find a lot of blogs through giveaways, but I always stick around and read everything that is posted. I may not always comment, but I do read all of the posts that you lovely ladies do... I enjoy all of the blogs I have discovered! (That's probably why my blogroll is so freaking long!)

  20. Yeah, it's crazy! Sorry about that.

People just really need to respect themselves and others and not do stuff like that.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Sad to hear people are not playing fairly!

  22. Don't let shit like that get to you. A lot of people want things for free and are willing to do everything to get it. Then there are people that might not just know they did something wrong. Be positive and hope it was the latter.

  23. Ok, for all of you, I had the loongest reply ever. But I accidentally clicked on one of the links as I was moving my mouse and lost it. *Shakes fist at blogger's comment system* I just want to say thank you for all your support and all of your understanding. It means the world to me and I am so very grateful for your kind words.

  24. I'm flabbergasted about the stories I'm reading over here...
You do something nice and then they stab you in the back like that... :(
But don't let them get to you!
There are so many nice women with beautiful nails and blogs and lovely stories!
Okay, give aways are nice, and even nicer if you win...but if you are not winning, unfollow? I can't believe it. ;(
That is just plain stupid. Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Agreed! I'm actually really surprised about these stories I'm hearing. Just ick. But yes, there are some amazing people out there. I gotta remember that.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Eek, that sucks! I hope this doesn't sour you too much on the whole topic. There will always be sneaky people, but there are many people out there who are genuinely interested in your blog. :D
