OMFG Canada won gold in mens hockey!!!! And Canada also breaks the record for the most gold won by any country in any Winter Games with this gold medal. Whooooooo!!! *Throws arms up in the air and cheers* *Jumps around like a maniac* *Screams*
*Coughs* *Straightens clothes* *Calms down* Now back to nail polish.
Fashion Forward is a dark purple with blue shimmer. This homie is definitely a blurple, but it's slightly more purple than the pics.
Two coats, no topcoat. Good formula, good application, no issues.
Edit: Generally, I would change the picture of the moment along with this post, but that fox is just too cute. I have to leave it up for a little bit longer.
Ok, I'm not officially back. But I did want to post. Just a little FYI for the ladies in Canada that don't live near a Sally Beauty, Winners is selling China Glaze's Up Up and Away collection for $5.99 each. When I was there today, they were literally just putting them out. So keep an eye out! And Sally's is indeed upping the price of China Glazes for members. They are now $5.49 (if I remember correctly) instead of $3.99. *Super sad marmot* Oh, and for anyone who's wondering. I'm 98% better. I've just got a sad and pathetic orphan cough now.
Jacques suede is a brown matte polish with silver shimmer. It's brown and blingy. Me likes, me likes a whole lot. And I also went and slapped a top coat on it. So check it out!
This is two coats. You could probably get away with one if you're careful. Like all mattes, highly pigmented. But always wear base coat. This little buddy totally stained my nails. It's the only time I've ever gone naked underneath and I'm never doing it again.
Edit: Tomorrow is the last day to enter my contest. So get your entries in!
I wasn't going to bother posting this as I was sure everyone else was going to do it but I don't see many other announcements. So here it is. I got this in my email:
48 HOUR SALE!
It's an ultimate set! 7 Fabu nail polishes for only $50 (retail for $126) These polishes are going to be discontinued. Snatch them up now for a huge discount before it's too late. When they're gone...they're gone.
Oddly, it says 48 hour sale, but it doesn't say from when to when. I most likely won't be taking part. Their light colours just don't seem to work for me. And shipping to Canada is still $38.50. Absolutely ridiculous.
Yeah, I'm completely made of update fail. I've actually been sick as a dog since February 13th. Which isn't an entirely good excuse because last week I was so sick that I couldn't leave the house. So I just ended up updating like a maniac. But I think this last week or so has really caught up with me. I just feel exhausted. So I'm just gonna take a tiny break until I feel better. But I do have a tiny semi-update for you. Up along the top I created an about me page (for anyone who's curious who I am), a FAQ (that might be helpful for fellow Canadian polish addicts), and I also stuck my Twitter into a page. My sidebar was getting a bit cluttered. And when I get back, you guys can look forward to reviews of: -Sally Hansen American Beauty -Sally Hansen Fashion Forward -OPI Hollywood Blonde -Sally Hansen Passion Plum -OPI You Don't Know Jacques! Suede -OPI Your Royal Shyness -The Colour Workshop Unnamed polish
After those, I might also roll out another round of pick my polish. So, see you guys in a bit!
And I leave you with a little picture of a pin I bought for a friend. I think it's very pretty. Too bad I didn't bother with any lighting for this. The colours are much nicer than the picture suggests.
I've just spent the last 3 hours entering the entries for the contest into a spread sheet and I am cranky. First it was people not leaving their emails. I was annoyed, but oh well, what can do? And if they do win, I can just leave a message and they can email me their info. But it was the person that entered twice that has me cranky as all heck. Not entered twice as in left one comment, and then left another comment because they went and blogged or tweeted for extra entries. They entered under two different names. You should be ashamed of yourself. You've been disqualified. And right now I'm tempted to disqualify everyone that's entered anonymously because I can't check to make sure they're followers. I was just going to accept them and trust that they really are followers. But I'm not feeling that right now. HMPFF.
I did three swatches of this polish. Each time something happened. Seriously, if that last time didn't turn out, I would have just given up because this is a three coater and frankly, I love it too much to keep wasting it on swatches.
Glamour Game is from the 2008 Holiday in Toyland collection. When I got this, I had no idea what colour it was. In the bottle it's a pewter grey polish with gold glitter. On the nail it's a light champagne gold frost with a grey undertone. I think it's a fantastic understated colour and totally unique.
Just an FYI, I didn't bother with the bright direct sunlight pic. It was just too much and overwhelmed the polish. So here are two natural light pics and one lower light pic for you guys.
This is three coats. I was sick and did a crappy job removing my old polish and painting. I make no apologies this time. Anyhow, at three coats there was still VNL. But it's only really noticeable when you look close or in bright light. I actually wouldn't have minded doing only two coats. It's got a great goldie, greyish-nude look with some pink showing through. No issues formula wise, just a bit streaky as it is a frost, but I didn't really notice.
Anyhow, I'm totally preoccupied with my ads. They are boring. Why can't I get some of those ads for the cute Japanese online shops? You know the ones I'm talking about, the ones that oooze kawaii stuff. I used to always click those and just waste hours looking at the stuff.
I am absolute crap when it comes to describing purples and to top it all off, it's just about impossible to accurately capture purples. But I did my best.
*Speaks to polish* I like you. Very, very much. These pics are much too blue. I would call this a shimmery royal purple. Another one from the Sally Hansen Runway collection.
Two coats, no topcoat. As usual, there were no application issues. Glides on like... I don't want to use the word butter. What else is smooth? Mayo. Glides on like mayo. Mmm, I loves me some mayo.
Now a little blog business. Some of you may have noticed that I've enabled Adsense on this blog. I bounced back and forth for a while about this. I felt like getting Adsense was selling out, especially when I started this blog as sort of a public resource. But I made up my mind when I hit the post office today. It'll take about $15 to ship the giveaway package, depending where it goes. I'm a little bit jobless and I've already started buying polishes for the next giveaway. So Adsense it was. The profits from Adsense will be used to finance future giveaways, because I like buying crap for other people. Lol.
Veruschka is a forest green matte packed with silver shimmer. So it's completely blingy without being shiny. I really love this, but I think I'm sick of the matte look. I almost always slap a topcoat onto whatever matte polish I'm wearing. So I've got both looks here.
This is two coats. It's slightly thick and goopy, but nothing you can't work with, just be more careful.
Adding topcoat just makes it that much more blingy.
Omg, I can see why all these women lust after you. You are GORGEOUS. Just... Wow.
As most of you probably know, Project Runway was from Sally's Runway collection that was badly stocked down in the States, which lead people to think it was a Canadian Exclusive because the only people that seemed to be able to find them were us Canadians. So for all intents and purposes, I'm going to call it a Canadian Exclusive.
PR is an absolutely gorgeous deep green jelly polish packed with gold glitter. So. Darn. Perdy. The jelly base really lets the glitter show.
Three coats with top coat. As with most jelly polishes, you need three coats for full coverage, but oh so worth it. I'm sure you could get away with two coats if you're not picky, though.
Edit: I would just like to add here that the pictures do not do this polish justice. You can't see the glitter interact with the light.
Alright, so I feel the need to get this off my chest.
Blogger, your comment system blows. Hard.
The lack of a ability to reply to specific comments. I almost feel like I'm stuck in the internet dark ages. Replying with one massive comment and addressing each and every single person so that they know who I'm replying to? Are you serious? Come on now.
Your comment alert system for the blogger, really? I get an alert for my own reply to a comment on my own blog?! WTF, Blogger? You've had so much time, and yet you still can't change this?
And then comment alerts for other blogs. No, I do not want to come back to 30 emails of comments from other people who have made comments on another person's blog just so I can get an alert for the one reply I've been waiting for.
Come on Blogger. Step it up. This is one area where Live Journal owns you. You can do it. I know you can. And if there's a better way. Omg, please tell me.
Oh my gosh, check out my new banner! Cuuuuute. My favourite is Mukmuk, if you couldn't tell. He's the little one at the end. I wish I'd thought of getting an Olympic banner earlier. I'd have gotten more time to use it. Anyhow, StBF (Sarah the Best Friend, for those new to the blog) made this. I lack the skillz. But she's also made a bunch of new banners for me to use for the rest of the year. So sweet. Anyhow, onto the polish. It'll be a quickie post today as everyone and their freaking neighbour's dog's vet has swatched this.
I would like to start off by saying Mint Candy Apple does not sound appetizing at all. Do they exist? Has anyone ever had one? Yes, anyhow, this is a bluey-green mint creme. In my opinion it seems much too blue to be a mint green. This is sooo not my thing. I've actually had these pictures for a while but I just didn't like it at all and didn't feel like posting it. But since I have it, I might as well put it out.
This is two coats with top coat. The application is good. But it has a nice stiff brush so just be careful to not press down too hard.
Yup, the mint trend is so not for me. It is going in a swap bye bye.
Another note to add, I have updated the swatches for OPI She's Golden, so anyone who's interested, please go check that out.
So... I'm not big into V-day, but today is also Chinese New Year. So... Happy Chinese New Year! This is my Lunar New Year mani.
Bling Dynasty is a very deep yellow toned gold polish with gold shimmer micro-glitter. It's almost a mustard gold, if that makes any sense. This does not work for me at all. It's from this year's spring collection, Hong Kong. I figured with a name like that, this would totally work with the Asian skin tone, but guess not. =(
Two coats with Poshe. You can still see VNL, but it's not too bad. You could slap on another coat and you'd get full coverage. And those girls who say the Hong Kong polishes smell a wee bit different than other polishes? Yeah, I can sort of smell it too. But I can't really pinpoint it. It's not a bad smell, as nail polish doesn't smell like daisies to begin with, but the difference is definitely there. At least to me. Application itself was good though. No issues. Anyhow, I've put this up for swap. Not feelin' it.
So, um... I'm kinda at 187 followers, eh? Just... Wow. Thank you all. I'm a bit astounded at how many entries there are. A couple questions for you. How are the pics? Good? Is there any way you'd like me to improve them? How are the reviews? Are they helpful? Any extra info you'd like me to include? Er, that's more than a couple questions. Oh well. If you've got some feedback, would love to hear it.
I generally don't put posts up about giveaways, but I guess that's changed this last month. I've never had a contest post make me teary-eyed before. And I'm the type of person that blubbers at a drop of a pin. But this one did. Nathalie over at jellynat has a little contest going on. Please check it out. I'm always surprised at how few followers she has considering the quality of her posts. She's just such a sweet girl and every single follower means the world to us bloggers. So if you like what you see, please follow. And you might get a couple totally cute polishes out of it.
Nicole, your bottles suck so bad. Please change them. Seriously, they are ugly and hard to hold. Anyhow, back to your regularly scheduled posting.
Stop for Nicole is a bright raspberry red polish with gold glitter. I would say it's almost a red foil if something like that exists. The glitter is much more prominent in the bottle. You never see the gold when it goes onto your nails. But holy heck is this polish ever amazing. The colour is so bright, vivid, blingy, and in your face. I orginally threw away the direct sunlight pics because I thought they weren't colour accurate until I realized that the gold shows up in direct sunlight. I don't know if it's because you can see the gold glitter, or if it's just the yellow light. But it definitely moves from a cool red to a warm one. Very interesting.
Three coats and Poshe. It was good at two coats, but I wanted to see if it would get more intense. Which it did, but not by much. Formula was good. The bottles may suck, but the brushes are great. Although it's just about impossible to find a good way to hold them for a pic. Hmpff. Please ignore the little bit of fluff I have stuck to my ring finger. I didn't notice until after I took the pics.
The colour really reminds me of DS Reflection, but without the holo. I actually find this much too bright for me. It's distracting. But I would definitely recommend it for all the red lovers out there. Although the price is nuts for a drugstore brand. I don't think it's part of the regular collection, I found it on a special Nicole display at Shoppers Drug Mart so grab it now if you want it.
Reminder: Enter the giveaway! Click pic at top right for details.
I remember the day I hit 29 followers and I was so excited. 100! *Flail* Thank you so much for reading. Honestly, if it wasn't for any of you, I wouldn't bother to post. Knowing that at least one person out there is paying attention makes it oh so worth it.
Ok, on to the giveaway. I know that's why y'all are here. Lol.
I will probably never do a giveaway this big ever again. It just kinda happened that when I was thinking of doing a giveaway, I saw an almost empty display of Sally Hansen's Project Runway collection. That more or less made up my mind. Since then, I've just been grabbing whatever I thought you guys would like.
I was originally going to do this giveaway as a celebration of 50 followers, but I wanted to get all the polishes swatched first. This goal was achievable at the time, but I didn't get any sunlight for a while and when I originally made this goal, I was only at 5 polishes, all of which I own. But yeah, that 50 follower mark came and went and I kept adding polishes and... well, you can see for yourself. I don't own all of the polishes here so I can't show you swatches of all of them and I'm not going to give away used polish. But I have linked the polishes that I've swatched.
...LMAO, I still haven't gotten to the giveaway.
This picture's been updated. I realized I'd forgotten a polish in the other pic. So it's 17 polishes instead of the 16 from the first pic.
StBF has also included a little bracelet, stamping plate, scraper and stamper for you guys.
Close up of the plate: Omg, gross, I can see my lips reflected in the plate. So unnatractive! Hahaha, I swear, they don't look like that normally. I look angry.
To enter: Mandatory: -This giveaway is for followers only, so you must be following me in some form. You must leave me a comment here with your email and tell me how you're following me (Ex. Maximum three entries per person. This is open to everyone. (Just not to the moon, sorry. Shipping up there is obscene.) Contest open until February 28th 11:59pm MST.
So I can get this stuff off my desk. I am shamelessly begging. And I need to give it away to prevent myself from swapping it away. Think of the polishes I could get with Project Runway. I might actually be able to get La Boheme. *Dreamy eyes* And look at that lonely little Zoya in the background. It needs to go to a good home.
Does this make you want to follow me more? Please? Pretty please?
Quick post as I've got boat loads of studying to do right now.
Absinthe is a dark grey polish with green and silver glitter, which gives it a green tint. And oh it is a unique flower. So worth having if you're willing to give up the money for it.
Three coats. I really don't know why I got three different pics for it. They all look the same. Oh well, I have them, so meh. I needed three coats here because my application was uneven. I think if you're careful, you could be done in two.
So a couple weeks back I went on this total gold kick. I just wore one gold polish after another. This included gold polish on top of other polishes. It was weird. I've never experienced that before. I usually get sick of a colour and move onto something else.
So yes, this is one of those golds. My first ever Borghese. They have such lovely bottles, but man are they ever pricey. And I totally think of them as a drugstore brand since the only place I've ever seen them is Shoppers drug mart. But this little beauty was on sale and it is joy in a bottle.
Gusto Gold Dust is a gold foil. Or that's what I think of it as. It has silver glitter which is great because it moves it from a warm polish to a neutral. I love how it's such a deep gold colour, but not intensely yellow.
This is two coats. The formula was good, no streaks, no complaints. But boy, oh boy, do I have complaints about the brush. That sucker was huge. This brush makes Sally's Insta-dries look petite and reasonable. I'd understand wide, but not the thick part. Jeebus. A brush does not need to be that obese. Please Borghese, you'd save money on bristles if you'd just cut it down a little bit.
Other than the brush, I would really recommend this polish for all gold lovers out there. This was part of the 2009 holiday collection, if I recall correctly.
Sorry I have no real post to give you guys but I just spent last night finishing up a bio assignment. But I'll try to get one up for you tonight. Anyhow, back to why I'm posting. The lovely Natalie, fellow Canadian homie, over at On Beauty and Polish is doing a giveaway. Please pop on over and check it out. Later taters!
