SpaRitual Giveaway

For the Canadian polish addicts out there:

As many of you know, some of the most popular etailers south of the border no longer ship up to Canada. So I would like to bring your attention to one of Canada's etailers. I have been buying my SpaRitual polishes from spaboutique.ca for a while and have been really impressed with their customer service. I remember an instance where one of the polishes that I had ordered was backordered (this one actually happens to be a Zoya). A week after it still hadn't arrived, I got an email apologizing for the delay and an explanation as to why. I have never had that type of service before. I mean for them to take the time to let me know was so awesome and then the polish arrived within a week of that email. And as far as I can tell, they have the best prices and selection for SpaRitual.

So I'd like to do a little giveaway sponsored by Spa Boutique. As they are a Canadian company, this giveaway will only be open to Canadian residents. Sorry international readers.

Prize #1:
Spa Boutique will send directly to the first place winner any two SpaRitual polishes of their choice.

Prize #2:
The second place winner will receive one SpaRitual Optical Illusion from me. I don't even have a picture of this yet because I literally just ordered this polish today. Pictures will go up when I get it in my grubby little hands.

For one mandatory entry:
You must be a follower (either through google reader, Twitter, or Lj syndication feed). You must give me your email and you are only allowed to enter with one email. You must go to spaboutique.ca and tell me what two (2) colours you want. Non-compliance will mean automatic disqualification.

For optional extra entries:
-Follow Spa Boutique's Facebook page or Twitter @spaboutique for one extra entry.
-Tweet the link for this giveaway @perrypiepolish and send me the link for another extra entry.
-Blog about this giveaway and send me the link for the last extra entry.

Giveaway closes May 21, 2010 at 11:59 PM. I always end up making these long because I'm always paranoid no one will enter.

Rimmel Camouflage and OPI Rainforest Comparison

So I only have one good nail left. That would be left middle finger. So I did the comparison swatch on that one finger. The left is Camouflage, the right Rainforest.

Definitely click to see the higher res version. BTW, taken under Ott Lite.

Close but no dice. From far away, you actually can't tell. But looking closely, you see Camouflage is more vivid and more blue. Where Rainforest is more yellow and... blackened. That might be the only way of describing it. Anyhow, sorry for the streakies, it's awkward just painting half the nail. This is three coats and a coat of poshe.

So is this close enough for you ladies lemming Rainforest? Or do you need the real thing?

*Sobs*

VNS and Trans will no longer be shipping international. Well, for sure no for VNS. Here's the email I got from her when I tried to make an order:

Hi Helena,

Unfortunately, we are no longer shipping to Canada. We appreciate your business and apologize for the inconvenience.

Thanks,
Yen

And Trans will no longer be shipping via USPS for international orders. You can check out the info for that here.

Alright, I'm sitting here editing pics for a real post. So you should all see that sometime tonight.

I Have Failed You

There is no dupe in my collection for OPI Rainforest. I figured it looked like such a regular green, I must have a dupe. But there isn't. Although it's ridiculously sheer. And there are much better greens out there. Just sayin'.

I'd say closest I have is Rimmel Camouflage. It's just got a slight gold shimmer where Rainforest does not. But on the nail, the gold shimmer really isn't very noticeable. It might be enough to assuage the lemming. Oui? I wish I had a nail wheel that I could use to show you guys.

Promise, when my nails are better, I will do a comparison. If y'all don't see it, feel free to drop a line and remind me.

China Glaze Wagon Trail

Whoo! All blog comments have been answered! Hopefully I won't fall so behind again.

Sylvia's pick.

I took a million and a half pics. At a later date, I will use those pics for an ott lite comparison post for those who are interested. And I would like to eventually do comparisons of Wagon Trail and OPI At Your Quebec & Call.

This is a dark olive green polish with gold shimmer. Almost looks black in low light. This pic taken in early morning sunlight, so the light wasn't very strong. You can see how dark it is.

Two coats with top coat. It's highly pigmented, which means it was thick. But I didn't have too many issues with it.

So while I was typing up this post, I kept typing trail as trailer. Lol. Just thought I'd share. Now have some more pics of breakfast food.

Couple friends and I were at this place called Diner Deluxe a couple weeks ago. The food wasn't as good as it looks. It was disappointing, especially considering the hype. Overeasy Breakfast was just much better. But I snapped some cool pics.

First off, the cool benches they had outside:

Then the food:

Avocado and chorizo eggs benny.

Scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, and potatoes.

Smoked salmon eggs benny.

And here's a pic of the little mini ketchup bottles they have. So cute. I love places that have these because they just seem to pour better.

Mini Haul

Bleh, so I completely lack any motivation to post. It's just that I can't wear nail polish right now, so I'm not really excited to write about it. I hope my nails clear up soon.

But here's a little mini haul I wanted to show you guys. There's a brand up here called Joe. They make really good quality clothes and beauty tools for a reasonable price. And when their clothes go on sale, they go seriously cheap. So they've just recently come out with some nail polish. It's 3 for $10 CAD or $4 for one. I, of course, got 3.

L-R: Sun Kissed, Peacock, Prune.

These guys are minis. 6 mL each. I like that they have a flat brush. So far, looks like the formula is good. But I won't know for sure until I give them a try. I swatched Peackock on a piece of paper and it looks to be a true turquoise/purple duochrome. Prune is a dark raisin purple creme. And Sun Kissed is a light gold. Looks frosty in the bottle, but again, I won't know until I try it.

For more info or to see what other colours there are, check out their website here.

These Are My Nails

My very naked nails.

Those white spots on my nails on the side of my index, the uneven nail line of my middle and ring and the big white tip on my pinky is where my nail is no longer connected to my nail bed. My nails are cut as short as they'll go, so you can see how bad it is on my pinky.

This was part of the reason why I took my first break. But it's just gotten much worse in a very short period of time. So I'm going back on hiatus. I have about five more polishes to post. But after that, it'll be pretty quiet here. I may do stash pics though, so let me know if you're interested.

I'm also going to cross post this everywhere. Anyone who knows what might be wrong with my nails, or can suggest a treatment, please let me know.

Edit: For anyone that finds this from a web search or is wondering kinda what happened. I had an aesthetician tell me pretty much to stop wearing nail polish, cut my nails really short. As short as I can. And continue to cut it short until the nail bed moves back to where it should be. By cutting the nail really short, it can't hook on things and get pulled from the nail bed so it has time to heal. I hope this helps. If the problem doesn't start to improve in a couple weeks, please go see a doctor. It could be a fungus infection or something worse. I had improvement within 1-2 weeks.

Frankenpolish: Dirty Green Dragon

Hello my darlings. I know I've been kinda not here. But I just had my last class of the semester, which also happened to be my last class of my degree. So it's been hectic. And probably will be for the next week. But I didn't want to leave you hanging, so here's a frankenpolish. I have continued to work through my picks list and will have those reviews up when I get breathing room.

Dirty Green Dragon is a dusty green with gold shimmer. I kinda think it's perfect. You don't really see the gold shimmer in the pic though.

Recipe is easy. Half of China Glaze Solar Powered, half Nicole by OPI In Your Hands (I assume any dark blue creme should do) and a couple generous drops of Color Club Black. This is a mini bottle, so you'll have to tweak how much black you add depending on the size of bottle you put it in. Also make sure you have the correct balance of yellow and blue in your mix before you add black.

This is three coats with top coat. Formula was thick though, so it required thinner.

And in other news, I got OPI Rainforest, in a swap with Esmeralda, and I don't get the hype. Now that I have it, it looks kinda meh. Maybe it was all just hype. But I'll go see if I can find y'all a dupe.

Edit: So I intern at the Military Museums and I held my franken up to one of the green dress uniforms and it's almost exactly like the uniform except for the fact that it's got gold shimmer. Just thought I'd share.

N.Y.C. Molten Metal

I'm baaaaack. Didya miss me? Hahaha.

I didn't manage 2 weeks without polish. But the week and a half that I gave my nails has made a difference. No more peeling, mostly. And they don't look as icky.

Anyhow, onto the polish. Here's KrisInPhilly's pick, N.Y.C. Molten Metal.

I can't believe how long it took me to try this polish. I originally bought it on impulse. I saw it in the clearance bin at London Drugs so I grabbed it. I totally regretted buying it. But I assure you, there are no more regrets. This is amazing. It was a limited edition back in fall 2008.

Molten Metal is a sheer purpley-pink jelly polish packed with silver glitter. It's got a very soft metallic look. Good for people who don't want just full on metallic on their nails. Overall, it looks like a purpley-bronzey silver foil. And as this is a foil there are no streaks. The picture is colour accurate.

Three coats with top coat. It's wicked sheer at one coat. But builds nicely. I actually really like how it looked at one coat. This has a square cap, but it's removable and reveals a regular cap. The brush is flat, but not as wide as the pro wide. Oh I loves me some flat brush goodness. And please excuse the tip shrinkage. I think my Poshe is beyond rescue.

Reminder: Tell me what you want to see here. Click the link at the top of my sidebar.

Just a little this and that

'Lo darlings. Just some random things to share with you until I start wearing polish again. First off, if you haven't already done so, go pick a polish that you want to see. You can do that here.

Next, I was at Aldo today and found they sold nail polish. I didn't have my camera with me, so I can't show you what colours they have. But it's seven colours and one clear. There are two pink cremes, two red cremes, a purple creme, a blue creme, and a turquoise shimmer. I bought the turquoise. It's called Poolside in Malibu. I hope the gold shimmer in the bottle shows up on the nail. The polishes are $6 CAD. If anyone really wants to see swatches of this, you could pick it here. Just sayin'. Lol.

It's a bit dark, but it's colour accurate. I didn't manage to capture the shimmer though.

*Looks at entry* I'm pretty verbose aren't I? *Sigh* Why couldn't I ever manage to channel that into papers?

Anyhow, I got a cat. I belong in the nail polish circle now. Hahahaha. No, it's a plush siamese cat, very cute. Have a looksee.

It doesn't have a name yet. I'm totally open to suggestions.

That's it for now. Oh, I've also added some new polishes to the spreadsheet for anyone that's interested.
