OPI Black Cherry Chutney

Happy Holidays everyone! Hoping all of you have a good holiday season with lots of love, laughter and joy, no matter what you do or don't celebrate.

Rickie's pick.

Black Cherry Chutney is a nice deep red-based purple with subtle red shimmer. Vampy as heck, but not black. Totally looks like cherries on your fingertips.

Two coats with topcoat.

Pic of the Moment: Here's a wintery pic of the view outside my work window. The first one is actually the view from my window during the day. The building happens to be the offices of a housing developer here in Calgary. They built our house. The second pic is a pic of the same building but at night with all their lights on and from a different angle.

Hard Candy Mr. Wrong

Blu11's pick.

Mr. Wrong is a purple polish with gold foil particles. So cool. Going to keep this short, trying to get some work done.

Two coats with topcoat. No issues.

Pic of the moment: I made these little origami cubes as ornaments for my coworkers. I should probably do some sort of tutorial for these things, I can't seem to find one on the internet.

And here are some extra pictures. I was at Zoo Lights last night with two of my friends. Zoo Lights is this thing the Calgary Zoo puts on where they deck the zoo out in lights and you get to wander around and go ooooh, aaaaah at all the pretty. I didn't bother to get any pics of the lights because my camera doesn't do night shots well and it was cold. Like really cold. So. Cold. But here are some pics from inside the conservatory. They made it look all nice like.

Sephora by OPI What's Your Point-Settia?

What's your Point-Settia is a deep berry red with gold glitter. Click the image to get a good look at the glitter. Totally jelly-ish. I luffs it. It's festive without being overly in your face bright. Lasted four days before it chipped.

Two coats with topcoat. No application issues, just wish the brush wasn't so thin.

Pic of the Moment: My baby.

This is my new mixer. I got it last week. I have named it Mixey. I feed it and love it and hug it and pet it and talk to it and if I could take it out for walks, I would do that too. It's the KitchenAid Professional HD mixer. I love it even more because HD are my initials. I'm not sure why a mixer is High-Def, unless it stands for something else, but it just makes it that much awesomer. Forgive the mess in the background. I got distracted by the mixer.

Anyhow, I've wanted this mixer since high school. It's the mixer of my dreams. I had used it back in high school for a cooking/baking/foods class and fell in love with it. But I could never justify the price. I finally caved though. And I've been baking like mad. Totally wish all of you guys lived close because I would feed you all the fatty and unhealthy stuff I've been making.

Avon Grey Cement

Guest post! It's her birthday tomorrow so give her some love.

And I’m back again, one last time, to bring you the last of Avon’s matte polishes. Today, we’ve got Grey Cement.

I usually love me anything grey. Clothes, boots, polish. But Grey Cement doesn’t quite do it for me. It might be the dull finish—this one’s much more like the formula of Black as Night rather than Violetta and Red Velvet—or the fact that the color’s kind of dull. Even the name—Grey Cement—brings to mind somewhat dull images.

Two coats, no base or top coat.

I have a very similar non-matte in Rescue Beauty Lounge’s Concrete Jungle. (Is anything else but concrete grey?) It’s lovely, and I wear it often. Perhaps I just don’t like matte greys. To each their own, of course. Will I never wear this again? Only time will tell. Gotta love mattes for their quick drying time. In a pinch, I think I might slap two coats of this on as I’m heading out the door, definitely.

Pic of the moment:

I ran across this photo in my Pinterest dashboard and love it. I love, love, love this time of year.

Thanks so much for reading and commenting on my guest posts, and again to P for having me here!

NYX Jungle

Time for a new blog banner!

Jessi McKinney's pick

Jungle is a blue-polish-with-gold-shimmer green. I didn't realize how many of these were out there. And I own so many of them. Lol.

Three coats with topcoat. It's actually quite sheer so required the full three coats. No other application issues.

Vid of the Moment: Instead of a pic I have a vid for you guys. If you don't die of cute from this, then you have a heart of stone.

Avon Red Velvet

Guest post!

Hey gang! Mandy here. Thanks again to P for asking me to do a series of posts on Avon’s matte polishes. Today I’m bringing you Red Velvet.

I’m not that big on pinky red polishes, so I wasn’t sure about Red Velvet at first. I love mattes, however, so I snatched it up along with the rest of them. Before applying, I thought Red Velvet was going to be similar to Violetta, with the lit from within qualities. I was right about it being more of a satin—it’s definitely got more glamour than Black as Night—but it’s got more of a shimmer/glitter effect than Violetta.

I tried to angle my hand to best show off the golden sparkle. The color is lovely, but muted. I’m sure it would really shine with a top coat. Thinking about it, it’s a very winey color. I like it, I don’t love it, but I’m thinking it might grow on me? It’s very grown-up.

Pic of the moment:

This is the holiday décor I’ve got set up in my cubicle at work. I love working in a creative department—I’m a copy editor/writer at an educational nonprofit—we can get away with so much!

See you next week with my last post featuring Grey Cement.
